JETT, UCR

The Spatial Justice and Territories workshop in Rapid Transformation (2022) of the School of Architecture of the University of Costa Rica is a proposal Developed by Professors Sebastian Alfaro Fuscaldo and Michael Smith Masis. The course studies transformation processes in coastal areas with high population and economic growth; but with low indices of social development. Through the recognition of local needs, proposals with a sense of community and regenerative sustainable development are co-created.

The workshop Between Communities (2012-2018) corresponds to a course of design, participatory active research and manufacturing on a 1:1 scale at the School of Architecture of the Veritas University. The proposal was developed by Professor Michael Smith Masis, and had the collaboration of several professors, professionals, students, public and private organizations. He has registered more than 50 real interventions in community spaces.

BIODIS​ see more Biodis (2009) is an academic research platform founded by Minche Mena Deferme and Michael Smith Masis that investigates the paradigm of biology applied to design. Learning experiences have been developed with institutions such as the Universidad Iberoamericana, the Tecnológico de Monterrey, the Universidad de la Salle, the Universidad Veritas, the Universidad de Costa Rica and the Universidad de Los Andes, among others; promoting the exchange of ideas and knowledge that transcend disciplines in the search for design solutions inspired by nature.
